Page 88 of Phill from GCHQ - Yes, I know - five month since the last page! But now Phill is back. I have had a grant that covers about a third of the print expenses so part one (the first 46 pages) will be put up as a Kickstarter in January 2020 in a hardback version (hardback because of those money from the grant).
If you can't remember what has happened up until now you can read here on the Phill from GCHQ website. Phill and his friends, the pagan cult who watches over three evil Celtic Gods, have encountered the crazy data scientist Gerome Beatty-Philpot, but we need to move on to another character - foreign secretary, Boris Johnson!
As you can see on page 5, Boris Johnson suffers from an almost clinical europhilia and during his childhood he has, on that account, suffered so many humiliations that he is, well... a bit unstable. The text he quotes is from Arthur Rimbaud's fabulous , Une saison en enfer. And it translates as follows:
My day is done; I am leaving Europe!
I will return back with limbs of iron, dark skin, and furious eyes: on this mask, they will believe me belonging to a strong race. I will have gold: I will be brutal and laze. Women nurse such ferocious invalids who are returned from the hot south. I will become involved in politics. Saved.
(While vomiting)
Now I am accursed, I hate my homeland. The best would be a nap, dead drunk, on the beach.

Some very apt poetry. I guess it will not need translating for the French version. Great to have another page at last, but we are not going to rush you anyway. Cheers.
I had to read through both Baudelaire's Fleur de mal and Victor Hugo's Les Châtiments before finding this perfect quote. I wanted to find something that balanced with the Goethe quote from page 8 (easy to find now with my new index). Baudelaire would have been good but I didn't find anything useful. Then I found the Victor Hugo poems, but they were no good as Hugo was in exile on Gurnsey and wrote spitefully about the coup of Napoleon III, so that would spill to perfect into the brexit views and against the painful europhilia of Boris. So in the end I came to Rimbaud. I had had the idea that he was a bit too punk (1870-punk that is) but when I found this bit I could suddenly see that it fitted Boris perfect. Boris Johnson was a young man when the yuppies influenced right wing fashion, and they were exactly nihilist money minding punks. So Boris perfectly fits the profile, and I guess Rimbaud is one of his favourite poets.
