Yes, that is below minimum wage but I don't think a sphinx can be a citizen, so it's cool to pay them pennies. Not actual pennies, because a copper penny is worth like 3 cents, which would make his daily pay almost a dollar! And that would be about the average daily wage of a quarter of the world's population.

And we can't pay the sphinx more than a human gets!
