I have a had a few comments payout a couple of dollars,it was a vary nice surprise when I got the payout! One thing I really like about Steemit, and I think it is a result of the transparency as well as reward system, is that most comments in my experience are positive and respectful. Not only that but the quality of content in the comments is high as well. This is one of the main reasons I love Steemit!

There is such a different vibe on Steemit relative to other socials, the platform is very positive and constructive in a way I just haven't seen anywhere else.
