Do you know Ernesto Guevara?

in #communist6 years ago (edited)

Hi steemians!

Yes, i know. Sometimes i talk about cryptos, sometimes i publish mental disorders, and now, a communist figure.
Well, when i start my steemit account my goal was to learn a bit more about what interest me. If i could share some knowledge to some of you, it would be great !

Let's start. As you may know Ernesto Guevara a.k.a Che Guevara is theoretician and tactician of guerrilla warfare, prominent communist figure in the Cuban Revolution.
He was a very passionate reader, matter in fact CIA consider "fairly intellectual for a latino"
Ernesto studied Medicine in Buenos Aires University! Within this time history says that Che Guevara and one friend visited most of South America and he soon realizes that many humans are treated like garbage.
Ernesto began to perceive Latin America as a single entity, beggin to be rescued from poverty, hunger and disease brought by the new colonist.
In 1954 Che met Raul and Fidel Castro and he joined Castro's '26th July Movement' and played a key role in the eventual success of its guerrilla war against Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista in 1959, that leed to the implantation of socialism.

At this time we joined the Castro government, and became in charge of La Cabaña Fortress prison, later, he became president of the Cuban national bank and helped to shift the country’s trade relations from the United States to the Soviet Union. Three years later, he was appointed minister of industry.
Guevara believes that the socialism revolution against the imperialism commanded by the United States, should be taken to others countries, in order to spread the marxism ideology.

In 1966, he began to try to incite the people of Bolivia to rebel against their government,
After some initial combat successes, Guevara and his guerrilla band found themselves constantly on the run from the Bolivian army. With only a small guerrilla force to support his efforts, Guevara was captured and killed in La Higuera by the Bolivian army on October 9, 1967.

One ironies of the legacy of Che Guevara that is the face of communist leader that is used in t-shirts in capitalist America.
The people who wear this shirt may be people who know who Guevara is and what he did, and they're actually communist or marxist, or just people who like this t-shirt and don't know what they're supporting, sometimes having capitalist ideals.

Guevara expounded a vision of a new socialist citizen who would work for the good of society rather than for personal profit, a notion he embodied through his own hard work.

Some curiosities about him

  • Che’s real name was Ernesto Lynch.
  • He is Argentinian, not Cuban as many believe.
  • His nickname at school was ‘Chancho’ which means pig, a name given to him due to his scruffy nature and reluctance to wash.
  • Despite suffering from acute asthma, he was good at sports enjoying football, swimming, golf and shooting. He played rugby for club Universitario de Buenos Aires and earned a nickname ‘Fuser.’
  • He survived to regroup along with other revolutionaries in the Sierra Maestra mountains. As the supplies and morale diminished and with allergy to mosquito bite Guevara considered these time as ‘the most painful days of war.’
  • As second in command he was harsh disciplinarian, who was feared for his brutality and ruthlessness. But at the same time, he encouraged his rebel fighters to teach the uneducated peasants to read and write. Guevara termed this as ‘battle against ignorance.’
  • After his execution, a military doctor amputated Che’s hands.

Cheers !
