Mmh, I also but OCDB votes from time to time. It is just better to buy the upvotes than to power up immediatly. Still you need to have the steem to buy the upvotes. So, it should be like communication barrels. If I do buy an upvote it comes at the cost of this week leaderboard, but I do profit from it next week.
But yes I do understand where you are going at!
Edit: the 50SP for nothing is probably is a little bit off. I have now used it on 11 posts, 9 are paid out already. The cost was 35 steem, the calculated profit was 18.9 steem. So a ROI ofaround 14%.
I still regret that this didn't came into my mind sooner!
But their website is also a good playfield to earn a decent amount of curation.
