Psychologist is not a psychiatrist

in #community6 years ago (edited)

There is great confusion in the community between the psychologist and the psychiatrist. This confusion is evident when you hear some cases that are directed to the psychiatrist on the basis that he is the same psychologist, this erroneous guidance is often not in favor of the situation and may cause deterioration. It is therefore very important to understand this difference, and the following is a simplified explanation of this difference:

Psychiatrist: is a doctor, whose specialty requires him to study from 4 or 5 years - after the joint medical training - mental health. Is the only practitioner who has the right to prescribe drugs for the case, and resort to the use of some medical tests such as brain electricity or brain imaging studies, as the case. For him the causes of diseases are organic so use this method of treatment.

Psychologist: Studied at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and not in the Faculty of Medicine. His specialty is to study human behavior and psychological functions. The psychologist who comes to the minds of the majority, who cares about the psychological problems and psychological suffering of people, is a clinical psychologist, but at the same time there are other branches of psychology, such as experimental psychology, industrial psychology, sports psychology ... Psychologist It does not rely on medicines. It uses several tools, such as clinical cloning, listening, psychological testing, and other tools designed to help a person improve his condition without medication (except in some difficult cases). Noting that there are many disciplines in psychology, in which psychologists may use several psychological tools and techniques apart from prescription drugs. Because it is considered that the causes of diseases are mainly psychological and do not need treatment with medicines, so that if we can know these reasons and tried to get the patient to realize it, we will have taken great strides in the way to overcome mental problems and diseases.
