Phonon and Shifton from a Real Modulated Scalar (1907.04069v1)

Daniele Musso, Daniel Naegels

2019-07-09

We study a massive real scalar field that breaks translation symmetry dynamically. Higher-gradient terms favour modulated configurations and neither finite density nor temperature are needed. In the broken phase, the energy density depends on the spatial position and the linear fluctuations show phononic dispersion. We then study a related massless scalar model where the modulated vacua break also the field shift symmetry and give rise to an additional Nambu-Goldstone mode, the shifton. We discuss the independence of the shifton and the phonon and draw an analogy to rotons in superfluids. Proceeding from first-principles, we re-obtain and generalise some standard results for one-dimensional lattices. Eventually, we prove stability against geometric deformations extending existing analyses for elastic media to the higher-derivatives cases.

Self-Localized Solitons of the Nonlinear Wave Blocking Problem (1907.03857v1)

Cihan Bayindir

2019-07-08

In this paper, we propose a numerical framework to study the shapes, dynamics and the stabilities of the self-localized solutions of the nonlinear wave blocking problem. With this motivation, we use the nonlinear Schr"odinger equation (NLSE) derived by Smith as a model for the nonlinear wave blocking. We propose a spectral renormalization method (SRM) to find the self-localized solitons of this model. We show that for constant, linearly varying or sinusoidal current gradient, i.e. dU/dx, the self-localized solitons of the Smith's NLSE do exist. Additionally, we propose a spectral scheme with 4th order Runge-Kutta time integrator to study the temporal dynamics and stabilities of such solitons. We observe that self-localized solitons are stable for the cases of constant or linearly varying current gradient however, they are unstable for sinusoidal current gradient, at least for the selected parameters. We comment on our findings and discuss the importance and the applicability of the proposed approach.

On the Soliton Model of a Point Particle Spin (1906.07453v2)

R. K. Salimov, E. G. Ekomasov

2019-06-18

A system consisting of a point material particle and a scalar field described by the nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation has been considered. It has been shown that, when taking into account relativistic effects, in the case of small rest masses of a particle an energy minimum at zero velocity is impossible for such a particle. It has been proved that under certain parameters the spin state of a particle has a lower energy than its steady state does. Such a behavior is interesting for the construction of soliton models of spin. By a point particle spin an intrinsic angular momentum (orbital, in strict sense, but with a short orbital radius) of a point particle is meant.

In the present study, employing a one-dimensional nonlinear lattice with an on-site potential, we analyze the effect of discrete breathers (DBs) on its specific heat. In the most transparent way, this can be done by monitoring the chain temperature in a non-equilibrium process, at the emergence of modulational instability, with total energy of the chain being conserved. For the on-site potential of hard-type (soft-type) anharmonicity, the instability of mode ( mode) results in the appearance of long-living DBs that gradually dissipate their energy and eventually the system approaches thermal equilibrium with spatially uniform and temporally constant temperature. The variation of specific heat at constant volume is evaluated during this relaxation process. It is concluded that DBs affect specific heat of the nonlinear chain and for the case of hard-type (soft-type) anharmonicity they reduce (increase) the specific heat.

This paper analyzes the car following behavioral stochasticity based on the experimental trajectory data by measuring the wave travel time Tn(t) of vehicle n. The analysis shows that the Tn(t) does not follow a consistent pattern. In particular, we found that (i) No matter the speed of leading vehicle oscillates significantly or slightly, Tn(t) might change significantly; (ii) Even if the leader is asked to move with the same speed, the oscillation pattern of Tn(t) might be different from run to run; (iii) Sometimes, even if the speed of leader severely fluctuates, Tn(t) can keep a nearly constant value. Further investigations show that the time series of the increment {\xi}n(t) = Tn(t) - Tn(t-dt) follows a mean reversion process, based on which a simple stochastic Newell model is proposed to reproduce the realistic wave travel time. Simulation results show that not only the concave growth pattern of oscillations but also the empirical congested traffic states can be successfully simulated by the new model, including the stable congested traffic states that cannot be simulated by recent stochastic car following models.

Exactly Solvable And Integrable Systems

-type Fermions and -type KP hierarchy (1907.04226v1)

Na Wang, Chuanzhong Li

2019-07-09

In this paper, we firstly construct -type Fermions. According to these, we define -type Boson-Fermion correspondence which is a generalization of the classical Boson-Fermion correspondence. We can obtain -type symmetric functions from the -type Boson-Fermion correspondence, analogously to the way we get the Schur functions from the classical Boson-Fermion correspondence (which is the same thing as the Jacobi-Trudi formula). Then as a generalization of KP hierarchy, we construct the -type KP hierarchy and obtain its tau functions.

Symmetries and reductions on the noncommutative Kadomtsev-Petviashvili and Gelfand-Dickey hierarchies (1907.04169v1)

Chuanzhong Li

2019-07-09

In this paper, we construct the additional flows of the noncommutative Kadomtsev-Petviashvili(KP) hierarchy and the additional symmetry flows constitute an infinite dimensional Lie algebra . In addition, the generating function of the additional symmetries can also be proved to have a nice form in terms of wave functions and this generating symmetry is used to construct the noncommutative KP hierarchy with self-consistent sources and the constrained noncommutative KP hierarchy. The above results will be further generalized to the noncommutative Gelfand-Dickey hierarchies which contains many interesting noncommutative integrable systems such as the noncommutative KdV hierarchy and noncommutative Boussinesq hierarchy. Meanwhile, we construct two new noncommutative systems including odd noncommutative C type Gelfand-Dickey and even noncommutative C type Gelfand-Dickey hierarchies. Also using the symmetry, we can construct a new noncommutative Gelfand-Dickey hierarchy with self-consistent sources. Basing on the natural differential Lax operator of the noncommutative Gelfand-Dickey hierarchy, the string equations of the noncommutative Gelfand-Dickey hierarchy are also derived.

The -function of the Ablowitz-Segur family of solutions to Painlevé II as a Widom constant (1906.11517v2)

-functions of certain Painlev'e equations (PVI,PV,PIII) can be expressed as a Fredholm determinant. Further, the minor expansion of these determinants provide an interesting connection to Random partitions. This paper is a step towards understanding wether the -function of Painlev'e II has a Fredholm determinant representation. The Ablowitz-Segur family of solutions are special one parameter solutions of Painlev'e II and the corresponding -function is known to be the Fredholm determinant of the Airy Kernel. We develop a formalism for open contour in parallel to the one formulated in \cite{CGL} in terms of the Widom constant and verify that the Widom constant for Ablowitz-Segur family of solutions is indeed the determinant of the Airy Kernel. Finally, we construct a suitable basis and obtain the minor expansion of the Ablowitz-Segur -function.

Separation of variables and scalar products at any rank (1907.03788v1)

Andrea Cavaglià, Nikolay Gromov, Fedor Levkovich-Maslyuk

2019-07-08

Separation of variables (SoV) is a special property of integrable models which ensures that the wavefunction has a very simple factorised form in a specially designed basis. Even though the factorisation of the wavefunction was recently established for higher rank models by two of the authors and G. Sizov, the measure for the scalar product was not known beyond the case of rank one symmetry. In this paper we show how this measure can be found, bypassing an explicit SoV construction. A key new observation is that the measure for spin chains in a highest-weight fundamental representation of sl(N) couples Q-functions at different nesting levels in a non-symmetric fashion. We also managed to express a large number of form factors as ratios of determinants in our new approach. We expect our method to be applicable in a much wider setup including the problem of computing correlators in integrable CFTs such as the fishnet theory, N=4 SYM and the ABJM model.

Dispersionless Hirota equations and the genus 3 hyperelliptic divisor (1804.07724v2)

Fabien Cléry, Evgeny V. Ferapontov

2018-04-20

Equations of dispersionless Hirota type have been thoroughly investigated in the mathematical physics and differential geometry literature. It is known that the parameter space of integrable Hirota type equations in 3D is 21-dimensional and the action of the natural equivalence group Sp(6, R) on the parameter space has an open orbit. However the structure of the `master-equation' corresponding to this orbit remained elusive. Here we prove that the master-equation is specified by the vanishing of any genus 3 theta constant with even characteristic. The rich geometry of integrable Hirota type equations sheds new light on local differential geometry of the genus 3 hyperelliptic divisor, in particular, the integrability conditions can be viewed as local differential-geometric constraints that characterise the hyperelliptic divisor uniquely modulo Sp(6, C)-equivalence.
