It's exactly the stuff you see at 0:48 to 0:52 in the video. Computer vision using low resolution, 3d scale-invariant pattern recognition techniques for mass-public surveillance. Back then I was using SIFT. Nowadays, it must be neural net deep-learning techniques. Maybe not, since it's generally much slower and takes up plenty of resources compared to the lightning speed, low resolution SIFT feature gait-modelling and clustering techniques we applied back then. Felt kinda disturbed realising what we've made years after, but I guess it's just an inevitable piece of technology, which of course, could be used for both good and evil. Video by WSJ.

Side bar note, did not realize how aggressive China is with terrorism. It makes USA/Europe look very weak considering what the Chinese government has done in Xinjiang. Nothing is perfect but the government is being very proactive. So sad for the citizens though. It is like a prison.
Funny that there are some who want this level of government control even now within the places you mention. China is making a huge mistake by treating them like Palestinians or similar. That path only leads to the outgroup feeling more disenchanted with the occupying nation, and will cause more strife and leave little room for integration or healing.

This field seems to be moving so fast now. Some of the uses are scary, but we need it for things like self-driving cars that may eventually be far safer than humans.
Self-driving cars would be nearly 100% safe if they did not have wireless internet connections and the code was completely opened up for scrutiny and checked thoroughly. The route they're going seems a bit different, with many excuses for room for error.

It's very unsettling to see what might be described as a dystopian future in the present. Also the passive attitude of the rest of the world to such abusses is even more messed up.
There is no doubt at all technology has it's own bright and dark sides. It is always hurting whenever i see that terrorism is prevailing day by day in my beloved universe, should be stopped at once, else-wise there would remain nothing behind but only bloodshed!!

And I must say that this project is really timely. The rate of crimes, misidentity and every event that has to do with security has greatly increased, this research as well as implementation is really a good way to reduce crime.
