Three-Ingredient Dish


Welcome to Cook with Us #2. We are stepping up the pressure for this week. Your challenge is to make a Three-Ingredient Dish. That's right, a dish with only three ingredients. Together we'll discover and learn from each other the beauty of using a minimal number of ingredients to create tasteful dishes.
With so few choices of ingredients, it will be critical to pick the right ones. You are free to add seasonings, spices and fats or oils to your dish as they will not count towards the three. Some great examples of three-ingredient dishes are a Caprese salad (tomato, mozzarella and basil), a simple apple tart (puff pastry, apples and apple compote) or Potato "Anna" or Pomme Anna (potatoes, thyme and garlic).
When you make a dish with many ingredients, it is easier to hide mistakes and inferior quality ingredients. This week, with only three ingredients to use, every ingredient will be key to obtaining a successful dish.
When sharing your three-ingredient dish with us, please try to explain any ingredients or methods that are unique to the dish. We really want to know the story behind your dish too or maybe how you ended picking the recipe or ingredients. Consider these or any other relevant ideas when making your post. The more we can share with each other, the more we can learn.

The Cook with Us team - @chefsteve , @pandamama and @offoodandart - is very excited to welcome you and look forward to getting to know you as we cook together. It is our intention to build a community of people that enjoy cooking and sharing with each other. We are pleased to announce the following prizes for this challenge:

Cook with Us Official Contest Rules

Please take some time to review the contest rules below. We have made a few changes for clarity. We understand that a lot of work is put into every post and we do not want to disqualify anyone for not following the rules. If you are unsure about any of them, just ask us for some clarification. We will be happy to help you.

Contest Entry Rules

  • The title of your post should look like this: Cook with Us #2 – Name of your Dish. For example, Cook with Us #2 - Spaghetti and Meatballs.
  • The first tag on your entry must be: cookwithus.
  • Please upvote and resteem this @cookwithus post that you are submitting an entry for.
  • Submit a proof photo with the dish. The proof photo must include your Steemit name, the dish name and the date.
  • Include a description of the dish. Some examples are the taste of the dish, its origin, or the story behind it.
  • Describe why your dish works. Give a brief description about why you put these ingredients together.
  • Post a link to your entry in the comments section of the weekly challenge. This is the post that announces the start of the week's contest
  • You can only enter one dish per entry (a dish means a single version. Not one dish two or three ways). You may only enter one entry per week.

General Contest Rules

  • Contest ends every Monday 12:00 UTC.
  • Results will be published no later than Thursday 12:00 UTC, three days after the contest is closed.
  • Entries do not have to be original. However, if not original, please provide the source.
  • While there is a calendar showing future themes, entries can only be submitted for the current week's contest and only after the official post for the contest is made. Entries submitted before the official start date or after the deadline will not be considered valid entries.
  • The Cook with Us contest will cover many topics and disciplines. Make sure you check for weekly contest rules that may change due to the nature of the challenge.
  • By entering @cookwithus, the contestant agrees to their material being used by the organizers for any purposes and will not be compensated should the material be published. But you, the author/photographer, will be given written credit.

Cook with us #2 Tortilla Espanola

Ingredientes:
2 huevos
1 papa mediana
1/3 de taza de cebollín finamente picado.

Preparación: Cortar la papa en trozos largos (como el corte de las papas a la francesa), espolvorearles sal y freír en aceite hasta que estén doradas. En un recipiente batir los huevos hasta integrar las yemas y las claras, agregarle una pizca de sal. No es batir a punto de nieve (en mi país los batimos con un tenedor). Colocar las papas fritas en un sartén con una ligera cantidad de aceite y esperar que caliente bien. Agregar al sartén los huevos batidos y el cebollín por encima y cocinar a fuego medio y tapado, por aproximadamente 5 minutos.

Me decidí por esta receta porque proporciona 3 elementos indispensables en la dieta humana: las proteínas y grasas en el huevo y los carbohidratos en la papa. En Venezuela, como es conocido internacionalmente, estamos pasando por una situación sumamente difícil y con este plato de bajo costo se puede asegurar el requerimiento dietético para una comida. Por cierto, a mis hijas les gusta mucho, aunque la prefieren sin cebolla.

Investigando un poco sobre esta receta conseguí que fué el resultado de dos hacendados españoles llamados Joseph de Tena Gogoy y el Marquéz de Robledo quienes intentaban conseguir un alimento económico para hacer frente a la hambruna de su país en la década de 1790.

I love omelettes, especially in Thailand. Something about the eggs there, they taste so much better than the ones here.

Hi @playitagainjane! Thanks for asking. Garlic and onion would count towards ingredients. If you're using chili powder, that would not count as an ingredient. If it's chili peppers, that would count though.

First of all, I like this contest :) My dish consists of milk, eggs and flour, but also sugar and vanilla sugar. Do you count sugar and vanilla as ingredients?
