Right now it's running on an old laptop with 16gb of ram and requires about 700 gb of space for the block log, so requirements are relatively low. I haven't done any optimization work yet so I hope to bring this down quite a bit. Requirements are higher than hived at the moment as you can run hived in mega prune mode and use like 4gb.

I heavily doubt we'll all migrate to gopherd nor is it the goal of the project. Hived is very very battle tested and is tightly integrated with the rest of the ecosystem ( HAF , cli wallet etc). So it will take years for gopherd to reach the same trust status.
