When I try and upload a file, it gives me the following error:

I had the same issue on multiple files, but eventually did fine one that worked. Def would be annoying if I was trying to upload stuff and it just didn't work with no way to fix it myself.
That is fixed in my dev environment now and was related to the automatic thumbnail generation. This (and the inline preview) could happen to not work because of the codec of the video (like in your case). But you will be able to upload and it will go through the upload pipeline just fine now :) Next update it will be fine!
