It’s blue, it’s green and sometimes it looks a little bit red. Northern lights in the middle of a german town? Right before the big church where Martin Luther has held some speeches? It’s an art project what people could see this weekend in Halle, a city in Germany. With laser light and artificial fog the makers of the Silbersalz-Festival (silversalt-fest) painted the night air with the fantastic colours of the north.

This phenomenom are calling “Aurora Borealis” but in this times we should better say “Corona Borealis” – polar lights in a state of emergency. Many people in search for a good reason to leave their flat are coming out, to watch the changing sky for an half an hour or so.

Halle hasn’t many cases of Corona, but the inhabitants are careful with their neighbours. The number of public events has been very small for months, everyone is trying to avoid large gatherings of people. On the plaza where the laserlight moves us into a real northern night, law enforcement peoplein yellow jackets walk around asking the audience to wear a mask. The music they play as a soundtrack for the wonderful lights is deep and dark and sad. Colourful times. Strange times.
