'The cold' refers to a mild upper respiratory infection, often by multiple viruses at once. Of the viruses that can cause the cold, rhinoviruses are the most commonly implicated. Only about 15% of cases implicate coronaviruses.

Also I agree with your sentiment about it becoming seasonal. A single wave global pandemic is bad enough, hopefully this is the first and last wave. I would hate to see it have another, or even become perpetual.

Great point about it only being one type that can be called corona virus. Bad wording on my part.
