Covid-19 ground update on cruise ships.

in #covid-194 years ago (edited)

First thing we need to fight in this world is misinformation and it's spread.People try to generalise things faster and don't really understand the ground reality.

One of the same thing ,I am discussing here about cruise ship Covid-19 ground report.

Before that we should roughly know how big is cruise industry and how many people involve and travel in that.

An estimated 27.2 million will cruise globally. There are around 314 cruise ships employing 5 million crew on those ships.
That's lot of revenue to those nation's.

Now let us come to Covid-19.

How it started?

The man was seen by a ship doctor on Feb. 20 for serious respiratory problems. The man told the doctor that he had been feeling unwell for six or seven days,That would mean the man first had symptoms on Feb. 13 or Feb. 14 — two or three days after boarding the ship in San Francisco.

So it might have started earlier in USA.but the blame went to the cruise company.

How well they responded to the crisis?

Before that we discuss how well anyone responded.Initially all countries thought and never believed this is a serious issue. They thought that it's another flu.
But I think they acted fast and took decisions which was never done before in entire cruise industry.
They first time in history paused the operations for 30 days and agreed to all instructions and orders imposed by CDC.

New rules new protocols..
They started dedicated team and evolving protocols satisfying international health organization and CDC guidelines.
They started social distancing ,closing parties and other group activities, hand washing, temperature checks manythings to prevent the spread

Latest challenge..
Now as the cruise operations are stopped, they have to bring back crew home. Its biggest challenge because of many travel restrictions .
Still they arranged charter flights complying with CDC guidelines but it's not a smooth process
So they decided to travel through their own ships taking care of the conditions on ship everyday and by keeping health of the crew safe and sound.
It's biggest challenge but they will do it and they can definitely do it.

All cruise ships will be back...😊

Helping everyone

Maybe it is time to look carefully at certain aspects of our live before COVID 19. Cruise Ship tourism is actually a very artificial way of tourism, with devastating consequences for the environment and for the citizens of the popular cities. Maybe we should evolve to a world with a less hasty form of tourism, a world without bucketlisting every possible destination in the world.

I agree with that..but they comply better than any other agencies regarding ocean pollution guidelines etc.Their ships are moving to LPG gas fuelled engines. There are many regulations on them.
They provide employment for millions of people.
They are the first ones to get targeted because of uncertainty. They paid huge fines and they accepts and get audited by external agencies.
Pollution- there are many cargo vessels cause 10 times more pollution .

I've never been on a cruise ship. Come to think of it, I never had a desire to be on one.

So, what are the devastating consequences for the citizens in the popular city?

I think you are correct about negative consequences of mass tourism. A large number of people are taking insane trips that seem to be more about creating a list of the places they've been than learning about different cultures.

Knowing nothing about cruise ships, it seems to me that they should be a relatively benign form of mass tourism. People party on a boat for two weeks with the vast majority of their time spent on the boat.

In almost every City frequented by cruise ships, there are protests. There is the aspect of Air pollution, which is in fact more than Cargo ships, and mostly closer to the city center than the other sources of pollution.

And also tourism of cruise ships tends to swarm the streets on already busy hours. They are more concentrated around the sights and generally overcrowd practically everything.

They are not desirable tourists to have in your City and spend far less money in the city it self - paid excursions from the boat itself, and they eat for free onboard.

Those seem to be problems with the tourist industry at large. I've heard Florence is completely overrun. The National Parks in Southern Utah are being trampled to pieces. Yellowstone Park is simply a 200 mile long traffic jamb.

I imagine that cruise ships have the effect of concentrating all of the wealth of tourism into the big corporations that own the ships. The tourists probably expect accoutrements of the islands to be free and part of the cruise. "I paid $2,000 to MegaCorp for the cruise, why should I give a local shop anything?"

Mindless tourism seems to have negative effects.

BTW, you might want to go to the wallet in your account and claim the rewards. The rewards come seven days after a post. They give your account more resources.

I agree that locking down the industry was a big mistake. From what I've heard, cruise ships are well run and are quick to employ procedures to protect their passengers.

I would think a cruise ship would be one of the safest places to be during a pandemic as ships have controlled entry points and methods for sanitation.

BTW, I think the cruise industry responded quite responsibly when the world learned of the outbreak. The over the top reaction came from the governments and not the industry.

That is mind blowing photography
