The director-general of Health explained today that there is no trend in the spread by regions of the new coronavirus, warning that "none is free from being able to have outbreaks of disease".
“At the moment there is no clear trend, but there are indeed outbreaks that are being controlled in certain areas and other outbreaks appear in other areas,” said Graça Freitas during the daily press conference to update information on the pandemic of covid - 19 .
Asked if the increase in cases in the interior regions represents a new trend in the evolution of the pandemic, the Director-General of Health explained that there are instruments that allow monitoring the concentration of disease outbreaks throughout the country and what show is that the distribution of these foci is not uniform in space or time.
“There is no confluence, that is, there is no territorial unit that shows that there are bands in the country affected. There are many outbreaks and these outbreaks appear and are controlled, ”he said, stressing that, therefore,“ no region of the country is free to be able to have outbreaks of disease ”.
Graça Freitas took the opportunity to reinforce the importance of the containment measures being respected by everyone, stating that this is the only way to mitigate the virus in the various regions.
“Our job is to watch, to act accordingly, to take more intense measures where these outbreaks are and then (…) to monitor the effect of the measures that have been taken, which have reduced a given outbreak and (after) the virus does spread to other areas ”, he concluded.
