A study on brain imaging comparing pre and post Covid-19 states

in #covid-193 years ago

In a research exercise that is yet to be peer-reviewed, scientists have noted some effects of Covid-19 on areas of the brain that handle memory (parahippocampal gyrus), cognitive decision making (lateral orbitofrontal cortex), and the region responsible for keeping the body's physical and chemical conditions at optimal levels (insula).

The loss of grey matter was detected in these regions, more so in the left side of the brain, from before and after scans taken on 782 patients, 394 of whom tested positive for the Covid-19 virus.

They also noted the loss of grey matter in the areas of the brain connecting to the nasal cavity and the mouth/throat (limbic cortical area).
