Disturbing Surge

in #covid4 years ago

Covid hot spots have shifted geographically and demographically. The United States is seeing a disgusting surge in younger people and in states that previously were unaffected.

I have little faith in Americans as there is some ethos that no one can tell them what to do. There is a lack of empathy and in my opinion a lack in basic intelligence. As people easy social distancing and refuse the wear masks. As you can see from this article the numbers are depressing.

California recorded a striking 5,019 new cases on Monday -- topping the state's daily case record for the fourth time over the past week. In Florida, officials announced 3,289 confirmations in a day. And Arizona saw 3,591 new cases in a day. In Texas, health authorities have said new cases and hospitalizations are rising at their fastest rate yet -- a rate that Gov. Greg Abbott called "unacceptable." The state reported more than 5,000 cases in a single day, breaking their previous record. They're among 26 states -- a number also on the rise -- that are seeing new cases increase compared to the previous week.

The US is actually seeing a trend line that is increase Essentially eradicating all the good that has been done during the lockdown.

So why is this happening?
I believe the current political climate is directly impacting these numbers. Trump’s remarks about slowing down coronavirus testing, his refusal to wear a mask and his lack of human decency has rallied the worst in his base.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) condemned President Trump’s remarks at his campaign rally in Tulsa Saturday night in which he said he told officials to administer fewer coronavirus tests to keep case numbers down. Pelosi suggested that any effort to restrict testing will mean “more Americans will lose their lives.”
“The President is ethically unfit and intellectually unprepared to lead,” she said in a statement.

I agree with Pelosi’s comments. Trump is not a good human and is unfit for the office. I’m blaming him and the lack of federal response for a lot of what’s going on.

I also blame younger people. I think there is a sense that they are immune from catching the disease. However, young people account for the highest number of new cases in Florida and Louisiana and the largest rise in infections in South Carolina has been among people younger than 30.

I just don’t get it. I hoping that this will end quickly with the fewest number of people impacted, but at this point I have little faith.

I really would like to hear perspective And get the thoughts of this community. We have such a diverse community of individuals in the US and in other countries. Here’s a few questions I have:

  • What’s do other countries think of the US covid response?
  • What so you think about Trump?
  • Why do you think people would refuse to social distance and wear masks?
  • Do you think we will have a vaccine by next year?

That is pretty interesting the section of Michigan that is seeing a surge. Especially given what we know of that area! Believe me I would not want to be in the Governors shoes and I think she has done a pretty good job, but some of this data isn't surprising.

I think Michigan has been good. I jus there was a large surge in East Lansing due to college kids... I would expect a surge as these kids start going back to school since I have heard that colleges are planning to hold some in person classes this fall. I also would expect to see larger surges in these states that did not believe in Covid and allowed the public to go about their days like normal. Texas is in a downward spiral due to younger people at the bars.

I was talking more about the Traverse City area since they just moved that into stage five a month or so ago. I plan on staying away from there for quite some time. I have a conference that was supposed to be up there this Fall and they already cancelled it.

It seems like like normal up there which is concerning. I also hear that there a lot of vacationers going there because it’s so opened...

Is somebody also tracking how many tests they do? The more testing, the more cases. So a surge in cases does not mean that anybody gets sick, assuming many tests are false positive and eve more people won´t get sick due to preexisting antibodies.

They do track the number of tests that are taken. They have testing, positives and deaths data.
