When EBV infects youth and young adults we usually call it "kissing disease", because that's often how it spreads. Sports teams were known to all get infected at once, through things like close contact and sharing water bottles. It went around high schools and colleges in spurts, making many people sick, in some cases seriously. And it's still going around. But we've never shamed people for it, or even acted like it was all that gross. It was just a bug that you caught if you kissed too many people who had kissed too many other people. It's incredible that it actually does kill a lot of people, but we still don't demonize EBV or have EBV tracking apps and mobile testing centers.
