Ένα από τα διασημότερα κοσμήματα, χαρακτηριστικό της Μινωικής χρυσοτεχνίας, είναι οι μέλισσες των Μαλίων, ένα εντυπωσιακό χρυσό κόσμημα με τη διπλή μέλισσα.
Βρέθηκε στο Χρυσόλακο των Μαλίων και εκτίθεται στο Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο Ηρακλείου.
Αναπαρίστανται δύο μέλισσες που πετούν ενώ αποθέτουν μία σταγόνα μέλι στην κηρήθρα τους.

Το χρυσό κόσμημα από τα Μάλια είναι ένα κρεμαστό επιστήθιο περίαπτο, που απαρτίζεται από δυο μέλισσες που αποθέτουν μία σταγόνα μέλι στην κηρήθρα τους. Κρατούν την κοκκιδωτή στρογγυλή κηρήθρα ανάμεσα στα πόδια τους, τη σταγόνα μέλι στο στόμα τους και φέρουν συρμάτινο κλωβό με σφαιρίδιο πάνω στα κεφάλια τους ενώ μικροί δίσκοι κρέμονται από τα φτερά και το κεντρί τους. Αποτελεί έργο ιδιαίτερης καλλιτεχνικής ποιότητας και τεχνικής αρτιότητας, με συνδυασμό σφυρήλατος, χρυσοκοκκιδωτής, συρματερής και εγχάρακτης διακόσμησης. One of the most famous exhibits of the Minoan jewellery is the Bee pendant.
It was found in the old palace cemetery at Malia, Chrysolakkos and is a part of the permanent exhibition of the Heraklion Archaeological Museum.
The pendant represents two bees (or wasps) facing one another and storing a drop of honey in a comb.

THE BEE PENDANT
This famous gold ornament from Malia is a pectoral pendant consisting of two bees depositing a drop of honey in their honeycomb. They are holding the round, granulated honeycomb between their legs and the drop of honey in their mouths. On their heads is a filigree cage containing a gold bead, while small discs hang from their wings and the sing. This is a true masterpiece of the jeweller’s art, combining repouse, granulated, filigree and incised decoration. Malia, Chysolakkos necropolis, 1800-1700 BC.
