Some memories just come to you when you are not doing anything or feel like doing anything, they just come unannounced and leave you in thoughts, that is what happened to me on this day when I went home to visit my mom, she has called me weeks ago to come home but I had been pushing it.
"Son, you haven't been home for about 2 years, don't you miss your mother? " My mom said over the phone.
I Can't remember what my answer was to her , but I knew I told her soon....
And soon was on a Special Tuesday afternoon, I decided to visit without letting her know I was coming, I guess I did miss her after all, craving her food and to hear her talk was like the main reason why I went to see her.

That morning, I packed my small backpack and left my house and off I went.
I was just reminiscing about the days I still lived with her and I began to wonder what life is now at her end, of cos she's my mother, I was just the son who didn't like leaving his comfort zone.
I arrived my mom's house that afternoon and have was so excited to see me "you finally came" she said with a small voice, I gave her the hug she was offering and that's how we kicked off mother and son parole
That evening mom was in the kitchen lllldoing what she does best ...."cooking" it was like her trade mark, I decided to go find something else to do, since the internet connection was bad.
I started opening cupboards , drawers, here and there, like someone that had lost something, but I didn't know what I had lost that's the thing.
Then I stumbled on a very old box, it wasn't a fancy looking box, it was just old , it was just there , then I sat down Immediately and going through the box, inside the boxes were old pictures and that fascinated me, it's been a while since I was hard copy pictures ,so this was worth looking at.
One funny thing about old pictures is that When you look at them, you are reminded about your old versions , more like another version of you . In the box, there were pictures of family events, school events, birthdays , some random moments that I don't even remember anything about them.
I laughed at some "Wow, this is this boy from school that year, his haircut is so bad" I said to myself and when I found my own pictures I laughed even harder " it's like we didn't know what fashion is as at that time. "Ridiculous" I said.
I continued going through the pictures and I found a picture of I and a little girl and I paused at it, I just continued to stare at it, and then the memory started forming.
She was my friend in my childhood, we literally spent every day together back then, we played whatever games we came across and we at a point attended the same primary school, her name slowly came to my mind " Abigail"...
Funniest thing was I haven't seen her as an adult, I don't know what she looks like,I wouldn't even know if she passed by me.
Funny how life is, I know that then, we would have thought we will always be friends, children don't think about distance, or how life moves people in different directions.
Families moves
People grow up
School changes
And slowly friendship fades into memories.
I say there holding the picture , thinking about how someone who was part of one's everyday life becomes a memory , not a bad one, a good one.
" Maybe one day I get to see her and maybe I will recognise her or she would introduce herself" I said to myself.
And I started putting the pictures back into the box when I heard my mom's call.
"Son, come to the dinning, food is ready"
I was still holding the picture with the girl and I asked my mom when I got to the kitchen
" Mom do you remember this girl" I said
She looked at it for a minute and said " That's Abigail na , you people used to play together then "
But even she didn't know where her or her family moved.
I put the picture in my pocket, I was going to put it back in the box and I went to sit at the dining.
Even though I don't know how Abigail looks like, she still remains a part of my memory..

It's only a matter of time before the past becomes a world far, far away from our own; a single lapse in attention is all it takes for any family member, friend, or acquaintance to become a stranger. Some believe that neither time nor space can sever a bond, but if both parties lose interest in maintaining the connection, it simply vanishes. And all that remains is the memory of that golden age when everything worked perfectly.
