Have you ever set out to write a paper, or create some music, or develop an idea, and you just found that your creativity was missing? That happens to ALL of us! We reach a dead end where we simply run out of fresh ideas, and we fumble around helplessly looking for those solutions that just continue to escape us.
Today, I want to share with you five simple brainstorming techniques to get those creative juices flowing again.
1 Get an outside input.
Instead of just going at it by yourself, find the most creative people you can think of and have a brainstorming session with them. Two or three heads are always better than one when it comes to a brainstorming session, so get some help. Those other people might come up with ideas that never would’ve occurred to you otherwise.
Relaxed people are generally more creative, so have fun while you’re brainstorming!
2 Write down ALL of your ideas.
It doesn’t matter if those ideas are crazy and wild; write them down. They might be more viable than you think. Some of the greatest breakthroughs in history came from ideas that were considered pretty crazy at the time.
Write everything down and come back to it later. This step is meant to gather in all of your ideas, not to shoot them down.
3 Be creative, and try something different.
If you can’t see a solution right away, try looking at the problem from a fresh perspective. Get a different viewpoint, and your solution just might present itself.
Your solution doesn’t have to be traditional; there is more than one way to solve a problem. Getting creative with how you look at a problem might just get the ball rolling towards the ideal solution. Watch the world around you, and don’t be afraid to experiment with new ideas and unusual solutions.
4 Combine those ideas.
Whether you’re brainstorming on your own or part of a group, you might need to mash different ideas together to come up with the perfect solution. Some ideas are born as twins in the course of a perfect brainstorming session. You just might come up with two halves of a perfect solution.
Don’t be afraid to look at the results, the ideas that you’ve written down, in an unconventional way.
5 Ask questions.
This works well in group brainstorming sessions. Encourage plenty of questions about everyone’s ideas. Questions can lead to a basic idea being developed into fully workable solution.
