Bangladesh received a huge blow in the lead up to the tri-nation T20I series, involving Sri Lanka and India, with their captain Shakib Al Hasan being ruled out of the tournament as he continues his recovery from the finger injury sustained in January, Bangladesh Cricket Board said in a statement on Saturday (March 3).
BCB initially named Sakib in their 16-man squad with the hope that he will be available at some point during the tournament in Sri Lanka but eventually decided to rest him in order to give him adequate time to recover.
In Shakib absence, Mahmudullah will lead the side in the T20I tri-series which also features India and the hosts Sri Lanka. Shakib has been replaced in the squad by batsman Litton Das in the squad.
Shakib had recently visited Bangkok to consult an orthopaedic when it was decided he will need at least two weeks of therapy to complete his rehabilitation, and some more time after that to get back to match fitness.
