Are the ashes at risk?

in #cricket7 years ago

The saga around the Australian Cricket team and Cricket Australia continues. Failure to reach an agreement on a new pay structure has now resulted in the abandonment of an Australian A tour of South Africa, and also leaves the pending test tour of Bangladesh and pyjama tour of India in doubt.

The elephant in the room is whether CA and the players will get their shit together before the Ashes tour of this summer takes place. Look past whether players value the baggy green more than a 2 million dollar paycheck (and endorsements for Steve Smith), there is more at stake here.

The holy grail of world cricket is at stake.

Test cricket is already feeling T-20 cricket breathing down it's neck, with the newer form catering to the ever diminishing attention span of the average Joe. The Ashes is always a guaranteed sell out whether it is being played in Oz or the UK. Please don't let this issue prevent me flying to Adelaide and showing my home town to my 16yo cricket tragic son whilst appreciating the atmosphere of an Ashes day/night test.

Fester out for the time being....
