Crypto Curating! Hidden Gems in Crypto

in #crypto-news8 years ago (edited)

Hi there, in a nod to @dragonslayer109 I thought I might start a hidden gyms in crypto post.

1. Why Steem is Unique in the Cryptosphere - @l0k1

The article looks at what makes the top 7 unique. It is for beginners but helpful. He compared the currencies and draws insights such as this

In Dash, also, the marketing for the platform is also taken care of by the developers.... Steem, by contrast, farms this work out to each and every account, people can promote, or demote, the system as their opinion dictates. This is a model that resembles the Open Source community...

He also has some new ideas

My idea allows for the possibility of a possibly fragmented, garbage-collecting chat system, that distributes chats through a blockchain, while not requiring massive storage to keep it, by expiring old posts.

2. Whats New in Bitcoin Core 0.13.0 - @densmirnov

Technical paper but well formatted and thorough. This is the other end of the spectrum from the first post.

The most significant code change is the inclusion of the segregated witness (segwit) code in preparation for an upcoming soft fork. This release will not activate segwit, and if segwit is activated, this release will not act any differently,...

Also he provides detailed comentary on:

  1. Compact block relay
  2. Fee filtering
  3. BIP32 HD wallet support
  4. More intelligent transaction selection for mining
  5. Official builds for Linux on ARM

For example

By eliminating the bandwidth spike that occur
Faster propagation of blocks across the network, by dramatically reducing the amount of data that needs to be transported when a new block is found

3. 27 Altcoins Being Removed from Poloniex - by @stealthtrader

This is a news piece but I found it helpful. Perhaps some of this volume will find its way to Steem. Dash is on the list. EDIT ( dsh in on list not dash) It's nice to get this news in a timely fashion by adding stealth trader to the feed.

4. Welcome to the second decade of the 21st Century. The arrival of Bitcoin, Monero and the Economic Singularity!By @crazyflashpie

A thought piece on ramifications of monero.

The existence of a fungible digital money like Monero is a big deal because Monero is Money and Money is Energy.

Some interesting takeaways.

I'm fascinated to see how to this all will play out. From 2000-2010 we saw digital packetized information networks(the internet) go mainstream and change society. We now have packetized value and a way of hiding it from plain sight via Monero.

Great curation work, and I don't just say that because I got the top position in it. The 4th one also grabbed my attention. zCash is another up and coming crypto that will effectively implement real anonymous internet cash.

I also have posted a little ways down, in my feed, https://steemit.com/economics/@l0k1/when-shtf-what-criteria-determine-the-safest-places-to-be which discusses the implications of functional, and more widely distributed systems of cryptocurrency filling the gaps, in especially some parts of the world more than others, while the centralised, elite controlled monetary systems are in the inevitable collapses they intentionally cause.

The changes that will be wrought by the emergence of decentralised electronic monetary systems, will change the world, I am quite sure of it. Steem in fact is a case in point. It's not just about the money. It's about ideas as well. The systems of digital cryptographic tokens are more than just fancy mathematics. They are ways of securing human society. Money is just the start. We still have to even start to really dip our toes into insurance, lending, and elimination of the ability to gather information about people without alerting them to it (better still, make it nearly impossible). I have proposals languishing that I am sure will eventually become mainstream in the cryptocurrency community, about how to secure people against simple crimes like theft and extortion and even defending the whole society against small groups using these tactics. It has militia-based applications as well. My vision is not little. I have been working on all of these things for a long time, and I think that with the emergence of distributed discussion forums, finally I will be able to get the ears of the right people who will know exactly how to apply what I have figured out.

Great work, keep it up :)

Thank you for this work but note that you linked your comments on first and last of those posts. Not the actual posts so it has to be sorted.

Oh thanks. I'll fix

Fixed. I always comment to save post.

Great crypto news as always, @dennygalindo! One thing to note is that one of the coins that polo is decommissioning is DSH, which is dashcoin and not DASH! dashcoin is basically a clone of bytecoin! DASH is way too big to die, same with XMR hahaaa

Thanks that threw me, thought they must have a monero agenda over there.

Thank you for linking to my thoughts. There is a Money revolution underway and its important we try and understand it as best as we can.
