I was hopeful that steem and SMTs were going to be some part of that. Though, now I am less optimistic than ever before.

    Honestly, it is really not up to the protocol when it relates to existing assets. The important piece is the custodian who needs to hold the underlying asset on the blockchain. In theory, it should be easy to setup but regulation makes it more difficult.
