A game dev paradise ?
I just started discovering the possibilities of the Steem platform and there is so much potential in it. So I started thinking about what kind of platforms it might work. Being a game developer myself, I immediately thought of Steam, Itch.io, GOG, and so on.
But I think itch.io is the perfect example because games on itch.io are mostly made during game jams and are just proof of concept or just for fun.
Having a strong community that can decide whether a game is good or not (the way steemit does) would be totally game changer in a video game platform.
So, how could such a platform work ?
Content Creators
From the creators point of view, nothing would change compared to the classic Itch.io. But, you would have your account linked to the blockchain with some kind of token (Itch coin ?).
When a creator posts a game, everybody can upvote the game, and based on the principle that every game is free, having people play your game would be relatively easy.
Earnings
People willing to create a game would have a totally different approach if such a system came to life.
Here is how it could work :
Game Creator posts a game (raw idea, base game)
People play the game and eventually enjoy it
Due to players ratings and comments, the game becomes popular, upvotes are increasing
The creator makes an announcement : he is willing to work full time on the title
More upvotes
New release
People are upvoting the new release, the creator can live from the tokens earned
Here is the basic idea.
Also, you can also note that games are considered more expensive to create than a post (on steemit for example). So, a token based on such a platform would have a relatively higher price.
What about posting game jam titles here ?
None of the big game distribution platforms is gonna switch to a token based system soon, so, what about posting game jam titles here ?
Having a big #gamejam would be so nice !
Also, a plugin website to steem like dmania is doing with the memes can be a really good idea !
