The storing of files on the blockchain is a creative use of the metadata that can be passed with any BitCoinCash transaction. The file size limit of 5Kb is a function of BitCoinCash metadata, and is additionally constrained by an arbitrary amount of other metadata being passed with transactions processed within a single block. This size limit is what primarily constrains the utility of such a service. bitcoinfiles.com is the recipient of fees required to store a file on the blockchain (which are paid in addition to the fees required for the transaction to be processed by the miners). The file data will be stored as long as there are BitCoinCash miners that store the entire blockchain record, therefore these miners will never be compensated for this storage directly. If file storage on the blockchain is heavily used, it will simply accelerate our collective arrival to the point at which the entire blockchain cannot be stored on any single device. BitCoinCash is not the only blockchain/DLT to offer immutable file storage (e.g. Hashgraph).
