u pay maintanance fees when u get contracts from genesis (which is terrible price for btc go to pool.bitcoin.com )but yeah these miners will make way more money than genesis ....these are what genesis uses (of they have antminer s9 i think)

I know that you are right however many go to genesis because they feel that doing it alone is too expensive due to electric costs and the technicalities. Mining bitcoin on genesis is not profitable as you indicated rightfully. However is group of people come together and mine with the best machine, then they will make a lot of money.
