As some of you may have already noticed, Autonio’s Medium account is no longer active. It was recently suspended without notice to us, or explanation of the reason it was done. We have followed up with Medium several times and have expressed a willingness to comply with any content guidelines they could supply moving forward. We have yet to receive a response from Medium. Although we plan to continue reaching out to them and would gladly continue publishing on their platform, we cannot rely on that outcome.
After researching similar incidents on their platform, it has come to our attention that several other accounts related to cryptocurrency had been suspended in a similar fashion. It is possible that some commonplace industry vocabulary such as “Ethereum” and “token economics” could have been picked up the Medium’s filters and led to the automatic suspension of the account.
At Autonio, we have always tried to conduct ourselves in a fair and transparent manner and hold ourselves accountable to what we believe the best practices of this space should be. Although we work diligently to hold ourselves to a high standard of conduct, in the past year it has become difficult to ignore that many of the dominant digital media platforms have become perhaps too aggressive and imprecise in their approach to our industry. This approach often seems to lack granularity and has resulted in barring the good actors in this space along with the bad ones.
The internet and cryptocurrency were born out of a similar set of ideals: that people around the world should be able to share, transact and publish what they want, without fear of censorship from an outside body. While there is no doubt these ideals helped propel the internet forward in its early days, there has also been also been an undercurrent over the previous two decades of both consolidation and monopolization of digital media. This has left many with the difficult choice of conforming to whatever onerous terms of service a media platform may require, or undertake the difficult work of establishing their own outlets where people are free to publish and maintain custody of their own data, on their own terms.
We will be begin reposting our previous Medium articles on our new Help Desk, where anyone is free to review the content for themselves. Previous articles are also available on the community site https://www.autoniogate.com . While we are eager to work within the standards of whatever platform gives us a voice, we cannot be held to a vague, cumbersome and imprecise set of standards that has no room for possible dialogue or appeal. We believe that we should be able to collaborate and dialogue with our community about responsible and fair campaigns, discussions and shared efforts without fear of losing our publishing platform.
Autonio will be transitioning to this new Steemit account as our primary publishing outlet, and eventually, to a self-hosted blog on our website. @rahemanali 's Steemit will remain active as an informal channel for Ali to address our community directly. We will continue working to ensure our ecosystem is as self-reliant and accessible to everyone as possible. Although it is unfortunate, the recent issue with Medium has clearly highlighted the importance for Autonio to take full responsibility for its own content and data. This is an important principle that has been a part of Autonio’s DNA since its inception. We will continue to do our utmost in practicing this belief through all that we do, and work to make Autonio as transparent and self-reliant as possible.
