I've often wondered this myself. I assume it's because everyone wants something different or they think they can improve it. Similar to what Steemit has done around Steem currency.

Yes that is a good point, and that is pretty much how I see it as well. Each Coin is offering you a little bit of a different experience and project or change attached to it. Steemit is one of the coolest and most useful I have seen.
