Never fall "head over heels" for a particular cryptocurrency....
We are all guilty of it. We search the altcoin market and find that one particular cryptocurrency that we feel is going to be the gem that rises above all the others. We spend countless hours researching the coin until we feel we could be an official spokesperson for the project. For some, it's the technological innovation. For others, it's the team behind the cryptocurrency. We all have our reasons for why we fall "head over heels" for a particular crypto. The mistake is made when we let that passion cloud our better judgement.
This is my first official steemit post in what I hope is to be a very active blog. Honestly, I can't think of a better way to begin this blog than by sharing an experience I had with making the same mistake I mentioned in the previous paragraph, the mistake of caring too much for a cryptocurrency to admit defeat.
I began investing in cryptocurrency in 2012 after a friend suggested I buy Bitcoin. What was initially a small investment quickly became an obsession; I was utterly fascinated by the technology. To be able to establish a decentralized cryptocurrency and use it to take the power from the global fiat system...count me in. I was sold.
Slowly, new cryptocurrencies were released, and each promised some new type of innovation. That's when I discovered Quark in 2013. The more I researched the coin, the more I believed it was going to be the gem that passed the mighty Bitcoin. I started mining Quark and was able to accumulate a large amount through mining and trading BTC. At one point, I was so confident that I converted nearly 50% of my BTC to QRK. Imagine my satisfaction when the price quickly jumped from $0.2 to $0.20 almost overnight. Just like that, Quark was a top 5 coin.
My confidence in Quark was immovable. I spent many hours on chat boards preaching the word of Quark and how it was going to become the chosen crypto to lead the decentralized movement....I fell "head over heels." Unfortunately, that dedication and commitment clouded my judgement and caused me to go down with the sinking ship rather than cut my losses.
To make a long story short, Quark never reached that top spot I so dreamed of. In fact, if you decide to take a trip over to coinmarketcap and search for "QRK," you'll see that it ranks somewhere in the 500-600 range. Please understand, the point of this post is not to shine a negative light on Quark. The point is to shine a negative light on fully committing to a cryptocurrency, whether it's mentally, physically, financially, etc.
Please, take time to pull up a historical chart of coinmarketcap from 2013 or 2014. At any given point in that timeframe, 7-8 coins in the top 10 aren't even discussed anymore....they have become relics of our crypto past. I promise you that will happen again. Some of these current top 10 coins will inevitably disappear....taking the hearts of believers with them.
Don't let that be you.
