The learning Curve of Cryptocurrencies and how to introduce the newcomers

The learning curve

Something that we can all agree on is that cryptocurrencies take some time to get used to and wrap your head around. We all remember our first google search "What is Bitcoin?". We also remember the results of that search trying to explain the blockchain and proof of work and how mining generates bitcoin. After some time we eventually understood enough to either buy some crypto or at least follow it. However, as more and more cryptocurrencies enter the market some of them have a steeper learning curve than others.

We've all tried to explain blockchain technology to our family and peers only to be met with confused faces. For cryptocurrency to become adopted by the masses it needs to simple to understand. Imagine trying to explain STEEM, Steem Dollars, and Steem Power to your grandparents while most elderly people hardly know how to check their email. Now I'm not saying that STEEM or Steemit is too complex and is destined for failure, rather just using it as an example.

How to explain and properly introduce the curious cats

First, you should definitely consider the background of the indivial(s) you're explaining to. Know your audience. Is this person relatively tech-savvy or are they completely tech-illiterate?

I'd recommend starting off with Bitcoin and Litecoin as they're proably the most basic blockchain-miner-payment coins around.

Once they can grasp the concept of the blockchain, miners, sending and receiving payments, you can start to snowball them into coins that are a little more sophisticated like:

  • Ethereum
  • EOS
  • Monero
  • IOTA
  • STEEM

Some things to remember are not to overwhelm the person you're explaining to. Make sure you're not rambling crypto jargon to the point where people become confused and uninterested.
