Suppose you want to get "under the hood" to see the progress of a particular cryptocurrency project, such as, say, the ethereum project. As it turns out, it's actually fairly easy, that is, if you have a github account. Setting up a github account is free, and it gives you access to all the code for many of the projects in the cryptocurrency space. It's really the key that opens the door to what's actually going on. You can see very quickly how active the project is, what kinds of tasks are being (or not being) worked on, what languages - Ethereum is written in Python - and tools the program use, and so on.
You might think that you need to be a hotshot programmer to contribute to these projects. Not so! Even if you don't have a programming background, you can still contribute to many projects. There's always a need for documentation and translation of what are frequently difficult concepts. There's also a need to find bugs, so you can test the software. Nothing beats diving into the code!
Watch these videos, which will step you through the basics of setting up GitHub on Windows. You'll become proficient enough in GitHub to get up to speed with the basics. There are plenty of YouTube videos that will make you an expert GitHub user in a day or two. Incidentally, this is a great way to progress in your job, or to get a new job.
