On 13th January, 2020, Akon tweeted that he has finalised agreement for AKON CITY in Senegal and is looking forward to host everyone there in the future. This a very proud achievement for Akon, for Senegal and for Africa.

°° According to a CNN article, Akon first mentioned his plan to have his own cryptocurrency in the year 2018.
°° The city named AKON CITY will operate exclusively on cryptocurrency. All transactions will be carried out using Akoin, Akon's own cryptocurrency.
°° Akon only came up with the idea. He is not a crypto engineer. He employed crypto-geeks to bring Akoin to life.
°° Akoin is not available or operational yet, but will be expanded and developed this year. Akoin beta will be tested here

°° Akon chosed Senegal because he actually spent part of his childhood days there before moving to New Jersey.
°° The city, a 2,000-acre piece of land, was a gift from Senegalese president, Macky Sall, to Akon.
