Is Kin the exit for early investors into Kik?

Hi all,

as Kik is preparing to launch their eagerly awaited ICO sometimes this summer, I have been wondering what that move means for the early investors into Kik.

Of course Kik start out as a "classical", centralized business and has raised a total of $120m from Venture Capital and strategic investors. The first fundraising was done in January 2010, so over seven years ago. Some investors must be hoping for an exit of their investment soon I guess.

So how does the Kin ICO fit into all this? I know that 30% (or so) of the Kin coins will be given to Kik as a reward of them initiating the project. Will these coins be handed over to the investors of Kik, and will the company be wound down as a result of the ICO?

Or will Kik will live on and monetize their services in the form of coins earned by providing a service to the Kin ecosystem (i.e. providing the chat app)?

Does anybody here have more insight into this?
