Substratum: The Internet of the Future !

Sub_twitter_BG.gif

What is it ?

Substratum is developing an open-source foundation for the decentralized web, providing free, unrestricted, and uncensored access to content for a new Web 3.0. The Substratum Network is a worldwide collection of nodes that uses industry-leading cryptography to deliver secure content anywhere, all without the need for VPNs or Tor.

How it works ?

Users will be able to run nodes that "work like forwarding points on the network". Users will be paid in Substrate to run nodes that will allow the Substratum Network to grow and serve more people around the world. Multiple nodes can serve the same request, to do this the network will split up the data into unique parts and send those individually. Because any site hosted on the Substratum Network will be served by a number of nodes, it's impossible to direct DDoS attacks at a specific site to bring it down.

To access sites hosted on the Substratum Network the viewer won't need any special software or browser. Sites hosted on the decentralized network are accessible using any browser including Safari, Chrome, Firefox, and more. The only time you will have to install the Substratum software will be if you live in a country where the web traffic is controlled and limited. Then if you run a node you will be able to access websites that would normally be blocked by the government.

The Team

Looking at this team made me feel confident in the idea that they can pull off the ultimate goal of the Substratum project. They started off well by having LinkedIn and Twitter links for pretty much everyone, and the experience shown on LinkedIn was nice to see.

The Substratum team understands the necessity of making a product easy for customers to use, and that if people don't use it the project will ultimately go nowhere. In order to spur adoption they are developing the Substratum node to be very user friendly and simple to use. They know if people find it too complicated they won't use it.

The devs are very active within the community; putting out AMAs, talking in the slack, and posting on Twitter daily !

The Future Is Bright !

The beta node is planned to be released before the end of the year, they already have completed their first round of alpha testing which was a resounding success. They are currently doing a second round of alpha testing with a slightly expanded testing group.

The beta will be public so once the beta node is released anyone will be able to start supporting the Substratum Network and serving content. This will definitely bump up the value of Substrate, I can see it easily passing $1 shortly after the beta is released to the public (currently hovering around $0.34).
