What started as a mockery turned into something serious "The Dogecoin"

It all started in 2.013 when a meme that came out as a joke became popular in many parts of the world, it was a dog Shiba Inu, which was surrounded by several doggy thoughts, written as Comic Sans.

At the end of the month of November of that same year Jackson Palmer who resides in Australia, tweeted as a joke that wanted to invest in the currency Dogecoin, among the answers received was that of Billy Markus, a native of Portland, USA who commented to him He had been trying to create his own currency, without success.

This is how they began to configure the source code of Dogecoin, in which they included several elements of the meme. Thanks to Reddit, it started to go well with this currency. So far, this cryptocurrency has been used to give some reward to people who have done good actions on the Internet. Since tipping in other cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple and Bitcoin Cash has become very expensive lately, so several have already resorted to other alternatives and one of them is the Dogecoin.

In spite of everything, the dollar value of all the Dogecoins in circulation reached US $ 2 billion at the beginning of the year, a sign of the madness that sometimes prevails in the cryptocurrency markets. It is also a warning of the land that Bitcoin has been gradually losing. Its market capitalization now covers only one third of the crypto market.

Now a new cryptocurrency emerges almost every day. CoinMarketCap lists around 1,500 coins or tokens, including PutinCoin, InsaneCoin and Sexcoin. Most are nothing more than curiosities, for the month of January around 40 new cryptocurrencies had a market capitalization of more than US $ 1 billion.

From the list the Ethereum, Ripple and Bitcoin Cash have been closely monitored for some time now. Ethereum's fame is also a platform for smart contracts. Its success has attracted cryptoimiters: Cardano (US $ 7.8 billion) and a Chinese version, NEO (US $ 7.3 billion).

The Ripple is responsible for selling software to move money between countries; More than 100 banks have subscribed to its technology. Its capitalization within the market jumped to more than 40,000% in 2017, reaching almost US $ 149 billion in January, before falling again to US $ 78,000 million.

Cryptocurrencies that are not as well known have also taken flight. Zcash (US $ 1,300 million), Monero (US $ 5,700 million) focus on privacy.

IOTA (US $ 5,000 million) allows connected machines to exchange information and payments in a secure manner.

Stellar (US $ 6.7 billion) has developed a system to transfer funds at low cost and is used for charities, especially in low-income countries, as well as banks and remittance companies.

It is not impossible that someday one of these cryptocurrencies occupy the top replacing bitcoin, but it will not be so easy. Initiatives such as Lightning Network, Ripple's xRapid and other factors, such as the opening of cryptocurrency futures markets, only add more interest to bets.

According to several reports, the social network Facebook has begun to consider the creation of a token. If the largest social network in the world decides to enter the game, the place of Bitcoin as a leading cryptocurrency could be seriously endangered.

In January, the prestigious company Kodak announced that it will launch a coin called KODAKCoin, in order to allow photographers to charge for their works. Also, the Telegram messaging service, with more than 180 million users, points much higher: it plans to raise about US $ 1.2 billion and issue a token called Gram that can be used to pay from online storage to virtual private networks.
