Why SiaCoin?
SiaCoin network is far more affordable than other current providers. Sia's decentralized cloud is on average 10 times less expensive than current cloud storage providers. Storing 1TB with Sia network costs about $2 per month, compared with $23 on Amazon S3.
SiaCoin is completely private, Sia splits apart, encrypts, and distributes your files across a decentralized network. Since you hold the keys, you own your data. This means that no outside company can access or control your files, i.e imagine a Microsoft, Amazon S3, or google cloud employee hacking the traditional cloud storage, say for example Microsoft 365 documents kept on the Microsoft cloud; this could expose stored private keys for say a trezor kept in word, 20 word pass phrases for ledgers or other documents such as patents etc off your cloud storage. This risk wont be possible with SiaCoin.
SiaCoin is highly redundant. Sia stores small pieces of your files on dozens of nodes across the globe. This eliminates any single point of failure and ensures highest possible up-time, on par with other cloud storage providers. Other providers such as Microsoft will have 4 separate servers around the world thus if one fails or even two they can use the other two back up servers to ensure your storage service goes uninterrupted, this also ensures your data cannot be completely lost if a server is somehow badly damaged. According to risk management it is far safer to store on multiple nodes because in the rare event a solar flare hits one half of the globe and all 4 servers are facing the solar flare all data would be hypothetically wiped (with most the population), thus multiple nodes would prevent complete data loss in such an eventuality (an highly unlikely event but I doubt current backup server placements are spaced in such a manner as to prevent this)- I feel it is worth noting though, it has been 80 plus years since a large solar flare hit us.
Sia aims to create a marketplace on blockchain, thus using the Sia's blockchain, Sia plans to create a decentralized storage marketplace in which retailers/service providers compete for consumers business – this leads to the lowest possible prices driven by competition. Renters of this marketplace space pay using Siacoin.
