Mining With Browser

in #cryptocurrency7 years ago

Coin mining in the browser is interesting concept. Is this possible? Yes, just Google "Browser mining" and you'll see a lot of various sites and debates about this.

Here's the fresh site which offer mining via browser and the new coin, called JSEcoin (Java Script Enabled Coin).

User mining is just one of the options there.

Citation from the Whitepaper:

User-Mining

To make cryptocurrency fun, any user can log into their control panel and click a start mining button. Their browser will then be left to mine coins in the background while an iframe loads up a popular search engine and they can continue to browse the web as normal.
A dedicated coin pool will be offered so anyone with a web connection can go online and “earn” their fair share of the digital currency. This pushes the platform past “just being for webmasters and app developers”

The site is live and you can try it, here's the screenshot of mining platform:

I'm new in this, too, so any comments and discussion are welcome :)

While it may not be a scam in your opinion, it could be considered spam. Spam is not appreciated by the community and could be flagged or may result in action from the cheetah bot..

Some things that can be considered spam:

  • Banner ads of any kind
  • Referral links/codes
  • Repeating the same post
  • Links to known scams, phishing sites, and other dangerous links

Ok, I understand that, but what now? To delete post? Is this post a spam? Is the "considered spam" = "spam" in Steemit community?

I have just made a post exposing this behaviour by Steemcleaners because it happened to me too and many others like you. Please if you want to do something about this, look at my post and consider adding your upvote and/or resteem support so we can do something about this. this looks very fishy to be honest. I wouldn't touch it, since it's js enabled it means this can do anything with your browser in the background while you're mining. So you're better to be careful with that particular one.

Edit: interesting concept tho

agree, looks phishy yes but from other side it could be entering point for average users or people without any experience in crypto.

If it's legitimate, it's a much more interesting alternative to advertising.
