Facebook-5.pngGlobal content consumption- where are we heading?

These past few years have proven once again that humanity seeks order whenever it’s facing chaos; since we’ve transformed any thought that comes to mind into a Facebook post, any homemade clips to Youtube videos etc. — practically any user now holds the ability to become viral in a heartbeat, and by doing so reestablish himself from amateur to celebrity.

Gotye used to know her first!

Who remembers baby Bieber dancing around in his parents’ living room today? Probably not many of his fans, and yet, the megastar started out thanks to his ambitious mom uploading her kid’s video to Youtube, little did she know…

There’s no doubt the internet nourish creativity by redefining the common boundaries for professional as opposed to amateur. However, the democratize access to creation and simple wide distribution systems available online wasn’t all good news; many original content turned viral was completely taken out of its makers hands.

Lack of creative control and obviously non profitable financial returns resulted in a huge downwards spiral for more than a few creative industries’ mega players. These past years we’re starting to see the film, music, literature industries starting to bounce back, developing innovative user systems that utilize the internet wide distribution mechanism whilst restricting copying creative content online.

The talented becomes famous as famous becomes fluid…

If I can make millions on Youtube, why would I even consider signing with a record label? As emerging artists has the world to benefit from open, instant and in most cases free access to a huge mass of worldwide users, distribution companies must learn to adept or they’ll soon become irrelevant.

But let’s not jump ahead of ourselves, as on demand content gain a wider spread artists still need guidance if they want to stay on top. While some industries adapted rapidly to change, (gaming for instance) others (print mainly — newspapers, magazines, books etc.) are still struggling to find innovative systems to transform and achieve growth within the digital models.

Facing the unleashed authority internet offers consumers

So while replays/comments hit you instantly, sometimes harshly, it’s definitely harder to keep developing original ideas. But also, that much easier to bring to life any wild concept that comes to mind since most editing, recording, filming & distribution tools are available online.

At the end of the day, consumers hold all the cards as far as establishing viral content! The giant leap forwards is that now Blockchain innovative technology allows digital content to be distributed but not copied. It has created a fresh backbone to online content consumption, a new wave of internet habits that allows consumers to still define what they want, while embracing the creators that manage to produce sought quality content.
