Steemit going mainstreem - The Debate Continues

in #cryptocurrency6 years ago (edited)

I called it last month when STEEM was a mere a $1.42, telling people to hold to their coins. Then a few weeks later I reminded everyone as STEEM was breaking the $2.00 mark, hopefully you all listened and either held on or bought more. If you had, as of this morning, you could have sold for 4x-9x (depending on when you bought) that's right STEEM hit a massive $9.25.

But I am most certainly NOT suggesting you do. STEEM is only just starting to warm up.

But where does STEEM go from here?
Well the moon of course. Often the argument of "will Steemit surpass FB" gets discussed and while I believe micro-transactional social media is the way of the future, I think there would need to be changes to Steemit's current platform, technically and culturally, or another distinct platform developed on top of the STEEM Platform to really dethrone the king.

Looking at a typical facebook feed, it is comprised of short quick updates, funny, weird or scary news stories (usually with very little in the way of commentary), funny pic's, meme's, food snaps or people just complaining they are bored. Not to forget, the constant "ads" inserted by facebook itself that are so eerily consistent with things you have either googled or discussed in chats... As if they are somehow watching every move, comment and discussion you make. Switching over to twitter and there is really not too much difference but obviously with a very restrictive character limit.

Steemit doesn't have any hard coded technical limits and also has a great deal more versatility and options using the markdown language. You can post extremely basic posts or something that takes many hours to produce however the community culture, for the most part, encourages longer blog/vlog like posts. Facebook grabbed mass adoption basically due to ease of connecting with friends and family, especially ones that may live out of state or country. Twitter expanded quickly early on by enabling the general public direct contact with their favourite celebrities.

So what's Steemit shtick? PAID author and curation rewards, NO advertising, a warm and welcoming community that wants to see everyone succeed.

We have such an amazing community with people like @aggroed, @ausbitbank, @broncnutz, @good-karma, @jesta, @reggaemuffin, @scooter77, @sirknight, @stellabelle, @surpassinggoogle, @pfunk, and many many more (sorry if I left anyone out). These people give so much of their time, resources and compassion that if you are not following them now, you absolutely must check them out and give them your support.

Now a few of these points will go in one and out the other for a lot or people but there is one I am sure will grab many many peoples attention so I'll say it again PAID AUTHOR and CURATION rewards.

Seriously, why would you post anywhere else?

I love you all, steemit to the moon.

The team at Community News really could not believe it was a mere 3 months ago when we had 1,000-2,000 new users joining every day and we were one of the heaviest used blockchains - and yet the Steem price was at $1. CRAZY! To make matters worse - plenty of Steemians were ready to call it quits and even more were selling. We too said HODL.

Now Nex, you tell us we have hit a new high of $9.25 - well how good is this!!

The Moon is one obvious destination - but bringing it a little closer to Earth by quoting our Senior Editor SirKnight.

If Steemit grows to a mere 7% the size of Facebook - that's $100 Steem!

Where our Senior Editor goes, the team at Community News tend to follow - so 2 years and $100 Steem it is.

I couldn't believe it either that STEEM was so so undervalued. But here we are and I am glad I am along for the ride. Thanks for commenting @communitynews.

You're definitely on the money in your perceptions of Steemit and the other social media.
Yes, there are issues that need to resolved and Steemit needs continual improvements and tune ups.

Ongoing mainstream adoption will keep happening and it's probably a good thing if it's a solid steady growth rather than a big wave purely based on the price of STEEM.

Yeah I also think as more people become aware of crypto's, more people will become aware of steemit as well. Steemit will gain adopotion from people looking for an alternative to other social media but also from people learning about cryptocurrency. As my dad says "bitcoin is like a gateway drug into the crypto world, you can't stop there and start looking for other opportunities and steemit is a very very interesting platform even if you aren't interested in writing or blogging.

micro-transactional social media is the way of the future

THIS!

Totally personal, private banking basically.

Bring it on baby, bring it on.
