Strangled for decades by the US government, Cuba has plunged into an economic crisis until losing trade relations with Venezuela. Recently, the Cuban government has announced the use of cryptocurrencies to circumvent US sanctions and revive the economy. In this perspective, John McAfee, the defender of cryptocurrencies immediately offered his help.

Cryptocurrency for Cuba

The Cuban regime has suffered the wrath of Donald Trump for more than 3 years. At the beginning of the year, the White House had announced a tightening of sanctions on tourism and education, once again plunging the Cuban economy into a major recession.

However, the leaders intend well to circumvent these sanctions, even to emancipate themselves of this stranglehold of the United States by digging the crypto question.

Following a dialogue with his ministers, President Miguel Diaz-Canel announced that the incomes of civil servants and a quarter of the population would be enhanced through cryptocurrencies.

John McAfee supports Cuba

The idea of launching a national cryptocurrency is not new for a country in the middle of an economic crisis.

Moreover, Cuba could well take advantage of the Venezuelan experience with the "Petro" to open its business to the world.

Alejandro Gil Fernandez, Cuba's Minister of Economy, explained:

"We are studying the potential use of cryptocurrency ... in our national and international business transactions, and we are working with academics."
At the same time, John McAfee , the founder of cyber security company McAfee, also supported the project. In a tweet published on July 3 , the influencer offered his help to get Cuba out of the US pressure.
"Cuba is considering using cryptocurrency to circumvent the 63 years of economic strangulation imposed on 14 million Cubans by the US government's madness. Finally, a real-world application for crypto-currencies. If Cuba wants my help, I'm here, "he said.
