Unity in Diversity
We live in a world where religion divides us, ideals separates us, and pride severs the bonds of humanity; politics that ruin the relationship among individuals and families; traditions that create gaps and boundaries towards our fellowmen. These differences have caused strife among us; strife that has led to the division among peoples and nations. Strife that caused misunderstandings among our religions and culture. Strife, that, when we only have a little understanding, openness, and passion for each other, could have been averted and we’ve all benefited from our diversity.
People have always feared what they don’t understand or what is different from what they are used too. How do we staunch the wounds of humanity? There are many ways to broaden one’s understanding of each other’s differences. One can learn by reading and listening about the various cultures along with beliefs and traditions. However, the best way to understand the differences of one another is to immerse ourselves with them. Immersion can be done through travelling to their places. We can emphasize with one another if we comprehend what or who influence their belief system and come to the realization that just like one of us, they too are part of humanity. There are a set of guidelines that we must take to accomplish the proposed behaviour.
Changing our mind set allows us to understand and tolerate our differences in traditions and cultures. Having an open mind helps us embrace our diversity and refrains us from judging and offend one’s belief. Imposing self-beliefs and traditions towards and against other cultures connotes pride and this is where humility takes place in changing our mind sets. If we take to action these guidelines, then change will take its place to influence our fellowmen and make a difference.
With all that has been said, I implore you dear friends to strive for excellence. Use your talent and abilities in the best way possible and create impact to humanity. Let us bind our bonds together and embrace our differences!
