In this post I am gonna explain, how the curation reward works and how you can earn more money with this curation tool that I am about to share.
You probably know this, that steemit offer curation rewards in steem Dollar to curator who upvote a post or comment, but they are indeed very complex to understand.
So first thing first lets clear the confusion and also let me answer this question as well, what's the best time to upvote to maximize your rewards.
The earning of every steemit post is divided in two parts; Author and curator.
Author gets minimum 75% and Curator gets UpTo 25%
Read that again I mentioned "UpTo" for Curators reward.
So the maximum that a curator can earn form a post is 25%.
Steemit wants to reward people who identify and upvote good content early but not so early, confusing right. Let me break is down.
The earning can vary from 0% to 25% as mentioned below
1> If a post been upvoted form the moment it came out till 3 mins, The author will get the entire 25% i.e. 100%
2> If upvoted between 3 to 15 mins the 90% of that 25% will go to author and rest 10% will go to curator
3> If upvoted a post between 15 min to 27 mins, Author will get half of 25% and you will get the other half
4> If upvoted a post between 27 min to 30 mins, Author will get 10% of 25% and you will get 90%
5> And if the post is upvoted after 30 mins, Curator will get 100% of 25%.
I know its quite confusing but the button line is if you want to make good curation reward you should be upvoting after 27th min or 30th mins to get the best out of it.
Think about it, if you see a post sitting at $0.00 at the 30th minute and you know its going to earn a lot, you can just upvote it and get rewarded.
So the next question is how I identify a post if its gonna do well.
Well what I do I look at the past earning of the previous post while making the upvote.
Please see the below screenshot right at time when i upvoted few post to get an idea what I am saying.
But first you need to find the post that are left behind right.
For that there is a tool created by curie itself https://steemlookup.com/#/
Using this tool one can filter post using many parameters
For example you can filer it by pulling those post that are 25 mins old and with 0 upvote and then look at the past vote earning and also the content of the post and then you can take the decision on the fly.
Try the tool yourself, you never know you can end up finding a gem. Best of luck.

Really informative, but i'm confused. If i upvote a post after 30 mins, I get the full 25% reward? And how long after those 30 mins does it apply? For example, is it the same payout if I upvote a post 2 hours after? Why would you not be rewarded more for upvoting a post before the 30 mins? Seems like you found good content earlier, so why not get rewarded for it? Still kinda new to this
30 mins and after anytime but if someone else came in early, he will get the reward.
