Isn't there some of kind of 'received planet' command on the chain... or is that only at the other person's end... even if it's the later you cld still track it although then you'd need all account data and I wouldn't fancy writing the code!
Other possibility: Not using the NextColony API but looking through the Steem blockchain for the Common JSON "Gift Planet" of this Planet-ID back to the date the planet has been discovered. Currently I do not use this feature to search the Steem blockchain but maybe this is something for the next weekend :)
The only possibility that i see, is to follow the missions of a planet back to its first mission. There you see from whom and from which planet this planet has been discovered. But this planet could also be a gift, therefore you must follow its missions also back to its first mission where this planet has been discovered.
