Highlights of Today's Dance and Yoga Practice

Today was an emotionally heavy day. After I moved, life came back in my system. Plus I got to dance in my new custom-made shirt. It says "Do no harm, take no shit."

I get a lot of value out of recording myself. It holds me accountable. As someone who likes to be in integrity, I like to observe my alignment and posture to keep improving my skills in dance and yoga. And it's been fun to post my sessions on Hive and be seen by others...

Shuffle dancing is very difficult! It's a balance between creativity, musicality, technicality, and timing. It's basically cardio and most moves require the engagement of left and right side of the body which stimulates both hemispheres of the brain. This type of dance is great for brain and cognitive health. I started shuffling last year, yet didn't practice too much due to feeling disempowered by how challenging it was. Yet recently, I've been committing to a daily practice. I'm starting to find my flow. This dance can feel so euphoric, releasing, and satisfying. There are some amazing pro shufflers on Instagram with moves and flow that'll make your jaw drop.

As much as my impatience wants me to keep adding new moves to my shuffle vocabulary, learning many challenging moves at the same time is counter-productive and feeds toxic cycles of perfectionism. So I've been working to stay humble and have the foundational basics on repeat: running man, charleston, glides, t-step, rocking. Just earlier this year, these moves weren't accessible to me.

These songs really brought out the feels in me today.

  1. Leave You - Einmusik, Lexer, Jyll
  2. Release - 220 KID, ASDIS
  3. The Night We Met - Lord Huron

I try to keep what I share online somewhat brief when it comes to dance videos. Maybe one day I'll keep parts that show me falling or messing up :') There are many moments like that in my practice.

I was feeling the black and white filter today. So here are some highlights...

Nice moves! I woke up and saw this and found joy.
