The overall aim of the film Id say is to portray how politics divides, especially in the modern era and during COVID particularly.

Without getting too political, it is holding everyone at fault for all the insanity and chaos that happened that year. Mocks performative activists who pretend to care about a cause for ulterior motives.

And also it is absolutely taking a shot at how connected we are
How that online connectedness affects us and can make us act in ways we never would otherwise, just for the internet points, and how it can affect our decision making. As well, as how it affects our politics and influenced the increased toxicity of politics and overall heightened radicalization. Brian becomes a grifter after killing the antifa agent because it got him the clout and platform.

Solid Gold Magikarp - the name speaks for itself. A complete fucking sham. A pretty distinct shot at AI companies.

The homeless man also symbolizes the pandemic itself, and how it can reach even the more remote of places, something made worse by the political divisiveness and politicization of the pandemic.

All this rambling to say that Eddington is a very poignant and timely social critique about the deterioration of engagement with politics, political etiquette, and how easily social media can allow for radicalization, and in fact promotes such things...

I couldve written this more cohesively but yeah. Eddington is Aster critiquing and mocking how absolutely idiotic we are all being and were, particularly during the pandemic. Division leading to downfall, Joe's mental deterioration. The mother taking charge at the end, and her suddenly supporting SGM is also grifting, she did what looked best and not what she actually believed.
