Dash's first major feature was confidential payments.
We've focused on instant transactions, security, governance, usability, adoption, and more. But we've had this key feature for over a decade. While the "privacy coin" label over-simplifies what we do, this is our heritage.
Darkcoin had a network-level integrated decentralized CoinJoin, powered by masternodes, that leaked the minimum amount of possible data: no unique denominations or toxic change.
Ahead of its time but still holds up today.
During the Dash era, this feature was improved many times.
Mixing rounds more than doubled, speeds improved dramatically, rounds randomized, and various other improvements.
It's simply known as CoinJoin today, but it's a significantly more advanced iteration than most.
In 2024, Dash privacy got two significant boosts:
CoinJoin was added to the mobile wallets with a set-it-and-forget it option, giving always-available confidential funds.
Usernames (stealth addresses) were added, which let you pay a contact without exposing your address.
2025 was a big year: the Dash DAO voted on a major privacy overhaul: Confidential Transactions (CT).

CT hides balances and amounts. And, when combined with CoinJoin mixing, will make it orders of magnitude faster and more private.
Just this week, Power Up Privacy, a nonprofit focused on advancing privacy in crypto and beyond, awarded us a generous donation to help expedite our CT upgrade!
And, of course, this quarter the markets are finally valuing privacy! 2026 is going to be an exciting year for Dash.
We're committed in making the best digital cash in the world and taking it to the masses.
Confidential payments are a big part of that. We will never stop refining and expanding this feature set for our users.
