Decentmemes updates

in #decentmemes3 days ago

I wanted to take the time to discuss some updates to decentmemes today. While my focus has mainly been scrobble.life lately, I'm usually always on the side doing some work on dm and holozing as well.

Widget

For the widget and database, we wanted to also offer pre-made memes as most of you are familiar with when using tenor/giphy/etc, meaning image and gif templates that already have the text pre-filled so you don't need to re-create it if it already fits the way you wanna use it. Since people have already been creating memes, this meant that we can re-use those and send them part of the beneficiaries their way if we use a pre-made meme they've originally created.

By clicking on this button in the decentmemes widget, you'll be able to browse already made memes.

We do plan on adding a "most used" pre-made meme function as well similar to the templates (the fire emote on the button above) and there's also some more polishing so the username of who created the meme doesn't block the text used in the meme if you wanna quickly pick one rather than open it up in the editor, etc.

Website

We've now created profile pages on decentmemes.com so you can login with keychain to track your own stats.

Other than that we've also started working on web2 login using gmail and discord (shared with scrobble.life login token) although we don't really know how to protect spam/flooding there yet the way we do on Hive. Maybe people will have to subscribe for a low monthly cost using fiat to be able to submit memes daily, that's for later to decide.

Creator Studio

For Hive Subs that I announced some time ago, we will be utilizing decentmemes website to have creators submit their emotes, stickers, holo card creations, collectibles, etc that'll be used on scrobble.life when consumers subscribe to them. So more work has been put into that lately, here's a preview:

image.png

Creators will be able to submit a certain amount of emotes they themselves have created which their subscribers can then use on their posts' comment section or on other people's comment sections and anywhere else on the site as long as they are subscribed. Same goes for stickers, cacha collectibles, etc. Creators will be able to set tier requirements for specific emotes/stickers, for instance if you wanna use certain emotes that require a tier 2 or tier 3 sub, then you need to have that sub to the creator to access them.

Subscriptions will also always show when commenting on the author's post as well as subscription streaks, i.e. if you've been subscribed for 12 months to a creator you'll stand out more with the info being apparent as well as how comments are ordered in the comment section.

Cacha card and other collectibles will also automatically be drawn and granted to subscribers when they subscribe with weighted rarity but upon subscribing again you won't get the same collectible you've already had. You can also only get a gacha once per sub/month to avoid turning this into gambling for collectibles. Naturally the collectibles are also not tradable, but on your profile page you'll be able to select which one you showcase when commenting on a creator you've subscribed to. When commenting on other creators you've also subscribed to, it'll default to showing the rarest collectible you have of theirs.

Creators are open to add more "content" over time but they may have to subscribe to scrobble.life to avoid spam/flooding of too many uploads over time.

More smaller additions
  • white bars to meme templates (bottom/top)
  • emoji's to memetemplates (later on creator emoji's as well if you're subscribed)
  • shapes on memes if necessary (circles/arrows/etc)
  • rainbow color text if you're subscribed

Anyway, as you can see, there's some more additions to make the platform stand out more and introduce different gamifications and show of support to your favorite creators so it's not all about the reward pool all the time. We've also added some ways the platforms could earn a little bit of revenue if users wanna subscribe and support it since most of the work so far has been non-profit. We may experience with this more later for new additions but without taking away existing infrastructure to place that behind paywalls as is the norm in the space lately.

Thanks for reading and memeing!

This project is fantastic! It would be great to give our followers on ScrobbledLife that option. It would help in two ways: attract more people to your channel and encourage creators to upload memes I have a question about this platform. My reputation says 63 on Peakd, but it shows 59.93 on this platform. I've been trying for many days now, and I've also tried with my own GIF And it says time ran out. I've tried different internet connections in case it was the network. I tried on my PC but it won't let me load the GIF, and on my mobile it does, but it shows up as in the image. I've liked the idea for a long time, but it prevents me from logging in.

Weird, will check if there's an issue with the reputation calculation.

I can't add the GIF on my PC, but I can on my phone. However, when I try to add it on my phone, it always says "time out".

like a submission or meme gif creation?

I made a GIF with my face in that format to make it more personalized. I did it to test it out and then make others to be more original.

Funny, ONLY now I found out about the part where in the top right corner you can come to "a new website" LOL

I was really surprised by some! 😀 Maybe metatagging is really important here... and I really did notice how important it can be, even if I made that comment about searches some time ago.

This is pretty neat. This will help content creators quite a bit I think. I'll check it out for sure.

Speaking of subscriptions.. does HIVE have a dapp like patreon? I could see that having a use case to support creators without messing with the reward pool too.

Like an automated monthly hive transaction to an account of your choice.

Anyway, just thought of that.

This will kind of work like that, by picking a tiered subscription ($2/$5/$20) as well as doing so with recurring payments. Users can of course also donate separately completely feeless, we just have a small fee on subscriptions that burn the hive to try and prevent fraudulent fake subscriptions, i.e. someone subscribing from an alt account to their main to appear popular.

Great, I'll be checking it out.
Having templates with predefined text is a good option; I've seen them before, and it's a good idea to have that possibility.
I'll be checking when I have electricity.

As an alternative to subscribing, what about offering the option to burn HIVE in order to utilize "premium" features? It might help avoid spam but if the amounts are small people would likely keep using it.

subs already have a small burn included, mainly to prevent wash-subscribing (alt account subbing to main to appear popular)

Oh okay, cool! Good to know. 🙂

Wow, you've been busy!

Might just have to look into making some emotes for my own stuff :)

Nice update! 😄 It's always fun to see fresh memes. Looking forward to more posts that can brighten everyone's day. Keep it up! 👍

It is looking better and better, amazing work, and well done. Have a few little breaks too. I know this can be very exciting, especially when things are starting to fall into place. 😀

Cool update G.
Thanks for the work on this.

I've tried to use it, but didn't understood much at a glimpse. Either I take my time to do it or maybe AI can generate some tutorials on that. 😉

Didn't read but should be correct. xD

Edit: read it now and edited out a part that was outdated
