I may have posted a bit in the past when working on this, but today I'm excited to announce that decentmemes has been integrated into @peakd!

but if you wanna read about it here instead, I'll go over some of the features you can participate in.
The idea is simple.
Submit a meme template that hasn't been submitted yet.
Give it a name to make it easy for others to find, include some tags, usecases, etc
For original creators who may think their photo is memeable you can check the "I created this template", for everyone else, skip it and include a source as to where you may have found it.
Then wait for approval.
Once approved, you'll be able to find it in the "GIF" widget here on peakd (and potentially other hive front-ends as well)
Rewards
We have a soft beneficiary rewarding system in place for convenience, i.e. when you create a meme from a template, you can click "add to post" and it'll directly add it to your post or comment, this way also tracking its usage for our Leaderboard section as well as the explore section with personal dashboard.
However, you can also simply download the meme and paste it yourself if you feel like not sharing some beneficiaries with the submitter of the template or the potential owner.
For posts, the service automatically places a 3% beneficiary to the creator*
For comments/snaps, the service places a 10% to submitter and 5% to creator.
This is for 1 meme used. It can go up to 10% for posts and 30% for comments if you're creating a lot of memes.
What does this mean exactly
Creator is the original creator that the template belongs to. On the internet people create memes and share them any/everywhere but the person who owns the image never usually sees a dime from it. Many even use memes to monetize their pages such as on facebook or X.
Thus we wanted to create a pool where potential curated posts/comments using the memes send some to the original owner of the template. The rewards will sit in an account called @decentmemeshold until the original creators come and verify they are who they claim to be and get to claim the pending and future rewards their meme may have generated.
Submitters are those who bothered to submit meme templates onto our service so they may earn some passive rewards through beneficiaries as well if their meme is popular and widely used by users.
While submitting memes is free for now and awaiting a manual approval process, eventually we will have to place a small fee to avoid flooding/spam so you're not just submitting any and all memes you can think of to attempt to squat them but feel like you have to invest a little bit of hive to see if it was worth it long term.
If you're the original creator, this means you skip the whole @decentmemehold process and receive 15% beneficiaries on comments directly, so it encourages users here to submit their own photos they think people will wanna use for meme generation.
GIFMEMES
This idea came to mind while creating the service, I asked Claude if it's feasible/possible and he agreed and praised me on my idea (I'm sure I'm the first that's been praised by AI).
You'll be able to submit blank gifs (up to a size of 8mb) that you then can meme!
I haven't seen this anywhere so I thought I was being quite innovative with this one.
When you meme a gif, it'll automatically re-render the images with the text you've placed on top to create a GIFMEME.
Anyway, that's pretty much it. Feel free to test the meme generation out, submit some new templates you'd wanna see there and let's make Hive a bit more fun and memes with no watermark or having to spend time googling for the blank meme template you were thinking of so you can use a meme generator on another site to add the text and then submit it 5 minutes later into a conversation that's already passed!

I feel like I am a bit too old for the whole meme thing. I throw them out there from time to time though. Probably not too much in my posts. More on Discord I would guess. This is still cool. I think there are a lot of people who will use this.
yeah, i mean having a page of peakd open while you're on discord is pretty normal, so creating a meme quickly is handy
i'm especially excited about gifmemes, cause there's often a gif i wanna use from tenor but it doesn't really fit the discussion so adding text to it could make it more relevant/funnier

I actually make a lot of memes. They are mostly for my colleagues at work and only funny to us though. Still, this gives me ideas.
so the "template" is the blank image without text that others would add the text to - are they able to add their own text to customize the meme in the website?
yes, you can technically use https://decentmemes.com/widget/ if you don't wanna do it through peakd, but you can also just download it if you don't wanna post it into a post or comment through peakd as well.

Haha yeah haven't optimized for mobile much yet since the highlight of it is the widget living in @peakd!
might be a bit hard to market outside of hive, they're just interested in pump and dumps mainly, but let's see over time when hive is more connected to other chains what we can come up with!
Would be nice to see community made memes on the frontpage or a subpage - maybe random x amount from the past x days.
Could do some daily auto posts based on pending rewards of the memes I suppose, split based on used in post or comments.

Some useful feedback:
When I loaded de website on mobile, the top-bar's elements do not fit and the [submit a template] button overflows. causing a clipping and allowing for zoom-out on the page. I think there are some options on small-width viewports:

For now we've been wanting blank templates, do you think we should add a gif section that's mixed? i.e. it has the original text but you can add more if you want or just use it as is. Just generally wondering, I don't mind either.

Wow, this is a brilliant initiative, @acidyo, DecentMemes is definitely going to make the Hive blockchain so much more fun and engaging.The fact that we can now easily create watermark-free memes and even use GIFs directly is just awesome. I also really love the beneficiary reward system-it is such a smart and fair way to give credit and passive income to the original creators and submitters. Really excited to test this out.
